What darksign says certainly makes sense, since it wouldn't unnecesarilly bump the thread. I think it would only work though, if you can see how many 'thanks' a thread has without having to open that thread.
And if this option would be available, can we thank all posts/only startposts/only contributing posts? How does it work, exactly?
